Frank Stevenson
September 2, 1930 – November 12, 2009
Frank started his fire service career with Western Plywood in Quesnel shortly after the plant began operations in 1950. He rose through the ranks to eventually become Chief of their Industrial Fire Brigade, one of only two industrial fire brigades remaining today in Quesnel.
He was elected to the Executive Board of the Fire Chiefs Association of B.C. as the Industrial Director and served for many years, sitting on various committees. His service to this Association earned him the Meritorious Service Award. Former Quesnel Fire Chief Ray Beaulieu remembers Frank taking all three of his Fire Brigade Shift Captains to a Chiefs’ Conference in Victoria one year, a time before Ray was Chief and one he says he won’t ever forget – that’s the kind of guy Frank was.
Frank also served as a volunteer with the Quesnel Fire Department from 1955 to 1975, retiring as Assistant Fire Chief, and was an Associate Life Member of the Quesnel Volunteer Firefighters Association.
Frank loved the outdoors often spending the entire month of October hunting, fishing and camping. He also loved golf and played in the annual Weldwood Golf Tournament as well as playing baseball for the Weldwood Team. He passed his love for the outdoors to his boys who all remain avid campers with their families.
He is survived by his wife Jean, four sons Bradley, Scott, Kent, Richard and 6 grandchildren.
Rest in Peace Chief.
