Training for new fire truck held Waterous and Smeal conducting pump and
ladder training.
• Remembrance Day Parade attended by over 20 members with Bouchie Lake and Ten
Mile Lake Departments participating as well.

Open House was held at Firehall #3 (345 Anderson Drive, West Quesnel) on Saturday,
October 23 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm to view the new truck. Mayor officially welcomed the
truck along with Councillors Thapar, Sjostrom, Doyle and Couldwell. Over 200 people
attended the open house.
Fire destroyed a shop on Sales Road, crews arrived just in time to save the house.
A Dash 8-100 made an emergency landing after a powder substance set off a baggage
compartment fire detector.
Hallowe'en was relatively quiet in Quesnel with only 3 calls for the night.

2004 - 19 calls for the month
House fire on Pine Drive results in total loss.
Five volunteers achieve NFPA 1001 Certification. Doug Pauze, Mark Rawling, Ron
Richert, Rob Rolfe and Mike Russell were awarded with framed certificates with IFSAC
seals.
Over 120 people attended the Annual Firefighter Appreciation Night. Firefighters
received numerous achievement awards. Mark Rawling and Ernie Clayton earned 15 year
service pins, Rudy Steines earned a 10 year service pin and Wayne Dunn, Stephen Gregory
and Doug Pauze earned 5 year service pins.

West Quesnel hit with rash of arson fires. RCMP arrested 8 suspects after Victory
Way Church set on fire. Charges have been laid against 4 of the suspects.
Grass fires cause damage in two fires. Latest fire caused by unattended burn pile
escaping into grass and igniting cedar hedge damaging 5th wheel trailer and melting vinyl
siding on house.
Early morning arson fire burns apartment building under construction to the ground.
Seventeen occupants next door were evacuated and ESS teams arranged for overnight lodging.

West Fraser Elementary School partially destroyed. Four area departments responded
mutual aid to assist West Fraser Volunteer Fire Dept. Suppression efforts hampered by -25C
weather.
Cold weather causes false alarms. Sustained -25C weather causing problems with
alarms and sprinkler systems.
Fuel delivery truck rolls into Hallis Creek spilling several thousand litres of
fuel in 4:00 am call. Quick action by volunteer firefighters averted a major environmental
disaster in downstream fish hatchery.
Weldwood Industrial Brigade holds fire in check at Plywood Plant. Steam line
ignited pitch in early morning fire.
Propane torch cited as probable cause in vehicle fires as temperatures dip below
-30C.
